A man in his late teens has died after the buggy he was being driven in crashed into a kangaroo.

Adam Varone, a graduate of Aquinas College in Perth, was the passenger in an all-terrain vehicle on Saturday when it struck a kangaroo on a private lot on Ferguson Rd, Beermullah.

The 19-year-old was flown to Royal Perth Hospital that evening but later died.

His death was shared by school principal Jen Knox in a statement on Tuesday, The West Australian reported.

“It is with deep sadness that I share the news that Aquinas College Class of 2024 student Adam Varone passed away yesterday following a tragic all-terrain vehicle accident over the weekend,” she wrote.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Adam’s mother Nikki, father Frank, sister Leah, girlfriend Tatjana, extended family, classmates, friends and all members of the Aquinas community who knew and cared for him.

“On Sunday, many members of our community gathered together at Mass to pray for Adam and his family.

“The large attendance was a reflection of the love, care and support that surrounds Adam and those closest to him during this profoundly difficult time.”

Mr Varone becomes the second member of his school cohort to die in tragic circumstances, with his friend and former classmate Nick Campo killed in a car crash in July 2024.

It is believed the pair were close friends and are pictured together in several social media posts.

Mr Campo, an aspiring AFL player, was a passenger in a Toyota HiLux being driven by a 17-year-old in North Lake when it crashed.

Ms Knox added that Mr Varone’s family had made the “generous decision” to donate his organs following the tragedy.

“While words can provide little comfort at a time like this, Adam’s final gift will leave a lasting legacy through the lives he will help save,” she added.

“We thank all those who have kept Adam and his family in their prayers and ask that we continue to hold them close in our hearts, remaining united as a community in the days ahead.”

WA Police has confirmed that investigations into the collision are ongoing.

“Gingin Police are investigating an incident that occurred in Beermullah on Saturday, 13 June 2026,” a spokesman said.

“About 7.30pm, emergency services responded to reports of a crash involving an ATV and a kangaroo at a property on Ferguson Rd.

“The 19-year-old male passenger of the ATV was airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital.

“The driver of the ATV was not injured.”
