The big footy-related news off the field in the last couple of days has been the terrible truck crash involving former Adelaide Crows and Fremantle star forward Tony Modra.

Modra crashed his truck at Back Valley on South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula on Thursday evening.

His friend and former teammate Mark Ricciuto has updated Fox Footy about his condition.

“The latest is that he’s making a good recovery, which is absolutely unbelievable,” Ricciuto said.

“Everyone was really concerned for 24-36 hours that he might not even make it through but he’s showing the grit we expect of Tony.

“He had a really long day of surgery yesterday, a big part of it was still happening late yesterday, to the left side of his face where the branch of the tree came through the side of his truck and fixed up his jaw and cheek bone and eye socket.

“He might not be the perfectly good-looking Tony Modra when he recovers but the great thing is that there’s growing optimism that he will recover and recover well.”

Also, on ABC Sport’s radio coverage today, Aaron Bryans has told listeners that SA Health have been contacted, and Tony Modra’s condition has been upgraded to “stable”.

Like everyone in and outside of football, we wish him and his family and friends well and hope he has a full recovery.
