Three people were injured as chaos erupted at JSCA Stadium during the Jharkhand T20 final as overcrowding at West Gate triggered a stampede on Tuesday. June 23. During the league final at the JSCA International Cricket Stadium in Ranchi, a massive crowd of cricket fans gathered to watch the match. Ahead of the start of play, a large number of spectators arrived simultaneously at the West Gate, leading to a brief period of chaos.

According to eyewitnesses, the surge in the crowd during entry triggered jostling and pushing at the gate. A few spectators sustained minor injuries in the commotion. Reports also suggest that the gate and barricades were damaged as frustrated fans pressed forward.
After being alerted to the situation, police and security personnel rushed to the spot and brought the crowd under control. Additional security forces were deployed, following which spectators were allowed to enter the stadium in an orderly manner. Once normalcy was restored, the final proceeded as scheduled.
“Only one gate was open for public entry, which caused a sudden surge in the crowd. The slow pace of security frisking led to significant pressure from the public outside, and the crowd became unruly for a brief period. We stepped in and brought the situation under control. Some people sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment. To my knowledge, four or five individuals were hurt. The situation is now calm and under control,” said Ranchi SSP Rakesh Ranjan.
Kamal, a member of the organising committee, said the situation became temporarily difficult due to the sudden influx of spectators, but it was brought under control quickly with the help of the security personnel. He added that a few people suffered minor injuries, but there were no reports of anyone being seriously hurt. The situation inside the stadium is now completely normal.
