Collingwood star Josh Daicos says the on-field exchange between two of his teammates last week signals a team still yearning for success.
The Magpies cruised past Richmond at the MCG to keep their chances of another finals run alive.
Forwards Lachie Schultz and Dan McStay were captured in an animated discussion ahead of the final quarter.
Daicos sees the confrontation as focus rather than friction, maintaining that player accountability underpins the Magpies’ drive.
“Absolutely, it happens a lot,” Daicos said, promoting a new partnership with Celsius for its latest Live. Fit. Go. campaign.
“We play a really competitive game and both boys want what’s best for the team and are fighting to get the win.
“I love it personally, I think at the time we were up by five or six goals and it just shows a really good mindset that we’re challenging ourselves.
“We want to be great and always getting better, so when we do come up in close games we’re executing.
“Personally, there wasn’t much to it. I know both boys spoke immediately after the game.
“It happens a lot, the cameras just happen to capture the moment.”
The Magpies sit 10th despite losing to the top-two ranked sides by less than a kick and drawing with third.
Daicos is confident the Collingwood “brand stacks up” against the best sides ahead of a season-defining clash with 11th-placed Gold Coast Suns.
“It feels, even though we didn’t get the outcome we desired, there were still so many positives to come from those games,” he said.
“We just lost to Fremantle and Sydney, drew against Hawthorn, so a lot of the top teams we’ve been extremely close with.
“Now, this stretch heading into the final few games of the year we’ve got to make sure we really close them out.
“We know our brand stacks up, we’ve just got to grind those wins out and have a deep run into finals again.”
