Tori Spelling has admitted she cried more over co-star Shannen Doherty’s death than her own father’s.

The actress, who appeared on Beverly Hills, 90210 opposite Shannen, told Michael Rosenbaum on his podcast Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum that she was devastated when Shannen died in 2024 aged 53.

In fact, she was more overcome with emotion following Shannen’s passing than when her dad Aaron passed in 2006 aged 83.

She admitted: “I had more of an emotional, outward reaction when Shan passed than my own father.”

When asked why she thinks that might be, Tori mused: “I was younger then — I mean it was 20 years ago. I think I had every feeling so repressed. I didn’t know how to deal with my feelings.”

Tori, 53, added that she knew she had to “just go on”, although also acknowledged that Shannen dying was a reminder of her own age and mortality.

She continued: “When she passed, it was this thing — and maybe it’s because we’re getting older, and it’s kind of a you start to think of your own mortality and what’s going to happen. And it’s like, ‘Wait, friends my age are passing and this can happen.’ That was a hard one. It was a hard one.”

It was also one of the first times Tori has struggled to control her emotions.

She said: “It was only like when Shan passed, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I can’t stop crying. And this is so un-me’. But I also like grew up thinking crying was a sign of weakness.”

Shannen starred as Brenda Walsh in 90210, until she was fired after four seasons, opposite Tori as Donna Martin.

And while they drifted apart after Shannen’s firing, they later reconnected – which Tori is eternally grateful for.

She said: “Shannen and I were best friends and then we weren’t. And neither of us really knew why. “And I’m so lucky that because of conventions, we got to come back together and be friends again before she passed. And that meant so much to me and to her.”
