Man ‘armed with screwdriver’ dies while being restrained by public, workers

A man allegedly armed with a screwdriver has died in Brisbane after he was restrained by workers and members of the public.

Reports to police said a 36-year-old had lost consciousness while being restrained, after he wielded a screwdriver and caused a “disturbance” at a licensed premises on Barrett Street in Bracken Ridge on Wednesday night.

Emergency services were called just after 8pm.

Police officers performed CPR, but the man could not be revived.

The Bracken Ridge Tavern is located on Barrett Street, as is a nearby bottle shop.

An investigation was launched, with a report to be prepared for the coroner.
