Bengaluru: On August 3, the first member of the two-month-old Karnataka Cabinet, led by Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, sworn in as officials, also as a Congress senator resigned over his isolation from the government.
In a meeting held at the Lok Bhavan building around, Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot took the oath of office and privacy to new ministers.

Ajay Singh ( Jevargi), N. Chaluvaraya Swamy ( Nagamangala ), K. M. Shivalinge Gowda ( Magadi), Basvaraj Rayareddi ( Yelaburga ), Vijayanand Kashappanavar ( Bagalakote ), Laxman Savadi ( Athani), and others took the oath.
AICC general secretary ( Organisation ), KC Venugopal, earlier in the day, informed Shivakumar that the Congress’s high command had approved 20 names for induction into the Cabinet.
But, Gayathri Shanthegowda, an MLC, whose name was put on the last list approved by the Congress higher command, was no sworn in on Monday, leaving the Karnataka case without a female chancellor.
Although it’s not clear why Shanthegowda wasn’t chosen at the last minute to join the Ministry, party officials speculate that differences between state officials contributed to this.
Bhatkal MLA Mankala Vaidya, who was a secretary in the Siddaramaiah government, was on a previous record, but SS Mallikarjun, who was also a minister, succeeded him.
No formal justification has been provided for the replacement of Vaidya.
The swearing-in took place with condition Congress President BK Hariprasad, AICC General Secretary in charge of Karnataka Randeep Singh Surjewala, and Shivakumar’s government acquaintances. Siddaramaiah’s presence, nevertheless, was obvious.
With a few governmental aspirants who did not receive a seat offering to resign, it caused unhappiness among the ruling Congress legislators as the long-awaited cabinet expansion suddenly materialized. In reality, Yashavantarayagouda V Patil, an Indien MLA, resigned from his parliamentary position on Monday.
Following Siddaramaiah’s departure as chief executive on May 28 and Siddaramaiah’s resignation as CM on May 3, Shivakumar was sworn-in as the CM along with 13 officials on June 3.
34 people, including the CM, make up Karnataka’s ministry’s sanctioned force. It now has one unoccupied port following the expansion on Monday.
Seven of these 19 new officials were members of Siddaramaiah’s past administration.
Interestingly, many top politicians who were members of Siddaramaiah’s cabinet, including H. C. Mahadevappa, HK Patil, Dinesh Gundu Rao, K. Venkatesh, M. C. Sudhakar, and Laxmi Hebbalkar, were absent.
Three of the original CMs’ children are now members of Shivakumar’s Cabinet. Yathindra Siddaramaiah ( who is already a minister ), Kumar Bangarappa ( S Bangarappa), and Ajay Singh ( N Dharam Singh ) are among them.
Rudrappa Lamani served as the Karnataka Assembly’s deputy speaker until recently, when U T Khader became a secretary during the government establishment on June 3. During Siddaramaiah’s career, Rayareddi served as the Economic Adviser to the Chief Minister.
Before the 2023 Assembly elections, former Deputy CM Laxman Savadi and Shivalinge Gowda, who both joined the BJP and JD ( S), respectively, are now ministers.
Former Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, who was the subject of “internal crime” complaints against the Congress member during the April 9 Davanagere South council bypolls, has even made it to the Ministry.
B. Nagendra has been reinstated into the government after being charged with a multi-crore fraud at the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation and who resigned as secretary of the Siddaramaiah state in June 2024 due to allegations of his role in the fraud.
The names of A S Ponnanna and G S Patil as the new Karnataka Legislative Assembly’s Deputy Speaker have also been approved by the Congress ‘ higher demand.
Umashree and Saleem Ahmed have been appointed as the party’s Assistant Chairpersons and fresh Chairman of the State Legislative Council.
