Police are urging people to be careful when advertising expensive items online after nine off-road motorcycles were stolen in a burglary near Hocking on Wednesday morning.
Officers allege offenders took the motorbikes from a shed on Vermont Approach around 4am.
The motorbike owners were asleep in the house but were woken up by engine noises.
Police attended a short time later and located seven of the stolen motorcycles abandoned in nearby streets and a local park.
Two stolen motorcycles, both described as blue Yamaha 125cc off-road motorcycles, have not been found.
In a statement, police encouraged the community to be careful when advertising high-value items online.
“Offenders can use online marketplaces and social media platforms to identify valuable property or obtain residential addresses under the guise of arranging inspections or purchases,” it read.
“Owners of off-road motorcycles are encouraged to secure garages and sheds, avoid sharing photographs or information online that may reveal where valuable items are stored, and register their motorcycles at www.bikelinc.com.au to assist police in identifying and returning recovered stolen property.”
