A woman travelling on the turbulence-hit Air India flight from Phuket to Delhi on Tuesday has recounted the terrifying moments when the aircraft suddenly dropped around 300 feet, describing the ordeal as a “near-death experience.”
The incident occurred when Flight AI2379 encountered severe turbulence mid-air. Although the aircraft landed safely in Delhi, 13 passengers and four cabin crew members sustained injuries, according to sources.

Shilpi Jain, who was on the flight, shared an Instagram video in which she showed her boarding pass and said she was seated in 23F. She then recounted the horrifying moments during the ordeal.
“The aircraft suddenly dropped around 300 feet, throwing passengers into the air and leaving many injured,” Shilpi said. She praised the cabin crew for their support during the incident, adding that they helped passengers as the situation unfolded.
However, Shilpi claimed that crew members later requested passengers not to upload videos of the incident on social media, saying it could harm the airline’s reputation.
She said she did not agree with that approach, adding that if there was a fault with the aircraft, the airline should acknowledge it instead of worrying about its image.
Shilpi also claimed that the flight did not make an emergency landing despite the incident. According to her, passengers were told the aircraft would continue to Delhi because better medical facilities were available there.
She also alleged that no immediate medical assistance was available after the aircraft landed, adding that passengers waited for more than 10 minutes before receiving medical support. Wheelchairs were available, but there were no stretchers for the injured, Shilpi said.
Concluding her video, Shilpi Jain urged travellers to choose airlines they trust.
Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is investigating the incident, with sources saying the regulator is also examining whether a technical fault may have contributed to the turbulence-related event.
The black box of Air India Flight AI2379 has been secured as part of the detailed probe. The Ministry of Civil Aviation and the DGCA are closely monitoring the situation.
