Police believe a body found face down in a creek is a man reported missing about eight days earlier.

Officers located the body at about 10.15am on Friday after members of the public reported finding clothing in Torry Burn Reserve at Baulkham Hills, in Sydney’s northwest.

Detective Acting Superintendent Michelle Mathieson said the man’s family and friends reported him missing on August 5 and were “absolutely devastated” about the death of their loved one.

The acting superintendent said the coroner still had to formally identify the man, which was expected to take place in the coming days.

She said officers were investigating several lines of inquiry, including whether the man was linked to a recent home invasion.

“His death and the circumstances of his death are being thoroughly investigated, and at this point we can’t rule out if his death is not in fact a natural death,” she said.

“At this point, we’re not actually sure … how the man has died.”

Acting Superintendent Mathieson said police were canvassing CCTV footage from the area and urged anyone with vision to provide it to police.

“At this point, it is a local investigation, and we are obviously canvassing all aspects of this man’s death and him being located in the Torry Burn Reserve.”
