Live: Australia’s tail exposed with Bangladesh closing in on famous win

Green works a single off the first ball and Mehidy has five balls to work over the Australian number eight, Pat Cummins.

The Aussie captain is resolute in facing the first three of them, defending well into the off-side.

He’s floating up a couple tempters wide outside off.

Cummins is leaving them alone.

An off side bat pad and a slip in place as Cummins turns one through midwicket for a couple.

Shanto is not best pleased at the fielding effort, sharing some terse words with Taskin, who he thought was a bit sluggish in fielding that one.

The captain then, rather performatively, races off after a Cummins inside edge, showing his fielders how it’s done.

The batters run two and that’s over.

Green is forward and defending the first two balls of the over, which are both typically probing, pitching outside off and spinning in.

A single brings Cummins on strike, the Australian captain then defending back to the bowler.

And Cummins works one through midwicket for a single to end the over.

The left arm offie is continuing around the wicket to the right-handed pair.

Cummins is looking good in pushing a single back past the bowler, before Green slashes one into the offside for another run.

And that brings the 200 up for Australia!

Just the 28 more runs required to make Bangladesh bat again…

Cummins is defending strongly out in front.

And a beauty to finish the over, Taijul turning one past the outside edge of Cummins’s blade.

Big swing! Ooft. Mehidy loops one up temptingly, and Cummins can’t resist. He goes for the expansive drive through the off side but edges it into his pad and to the off side.

The on field decision is not out, and after a long discussion, Bangladesh opt against sending it upstairs.

Well, another hour of cricket comprehensively won by Bangladesh.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz looking absolutely unplayable out there.

It’s spin twin Taijul continuing after drinks.

Trouble! A farcical runout certainly does feel appropriate right about now. And the Australians almost oblige, with the batters getting halfway down the pitch before scampering back to where they came.

The throw goes to the strikers end, and Green is home safe.

If it went to the non-strikers, Cummins may well have been on his way.

Green proceeds to work a single down the ground and the Australians escape the over unscathed.

What a Test for captain Pat.

Webster gets a stride in to defend outside off.

This is a fascinating battle, this. Can Mehidy tease out Webster? The guile of this canny offy is really testing the Aussie all rounder.

Webster looks to work the ball to the leg side, where there is a fielder at square leg, so no run. Taskin is looking to angle the ball into the stumps from wide on the crease.

He now pushes into the off side and they will take a single pretty comfortably. It was a no ball too.

Solid defence from Green as Taskin continues to push the ball down on that off stump line. Again, it’s been patient.

Green clips off his pads for a single to farm the strike.

Mehidy Miraz will look to work that rough outside off.

Then he does well to fend the ball away with a little bit of extra bounce in it away to deep point for a single.

INSIDE EDGE! Webster completely misjudges that and the turn carries the ball onto the inside edge.

BEATEN! Oh my! Webster sweeps, edges, then the ball deflects off the back leg too making a catch nigh on impossible for Das behind the stumps.

And now he’s forward doing the same, Mehidy has found his pace to get the turn and bite out of that rough. Clever bowling.

Hasan was remarkably good and unlucky in his four over spell.

He comes in and pitches outside off and Webster defends.

There is still that floating second/third slip, as well as a gully, that I think should be a first slip.

Webster fends to gully, who gathers and picks up to shape to throw straight away in one movement, keeping that pressure up.

Webster pushes to cover point and there’s no run.

More solid defence from Webster, who is looking to take his time to get moving here. He’s a great player to have come in at number seven.

FOUR! That’s a great way to get off the mark, a sumptuous drive through the covers all the way to the boundary. Well done Webster, that’s so well played.

The surface kicked up there a little, the slip and bat pad are in play with the ball starting to move and bite off the deck.

Green is back and clips to midwicket and they run a couple sharply. Those runs are important now, any run is important when you trail. Australia are still 45 behind.

Green fends to point and looks for a run there too but there’s no run.

There is so much chat out there at the moment and there is so much pressure building on the Aussie pair.

CLOSE! Oh my goodness that ball has comes back a long way and missed the off stump by a fraction. There’s no bounce there either, because of the off cut that Hasan put on it.

CLOSE! Green cuts down on the ball and it bounces over the stumps! A charmed life being lived by Green!

He drives through the legs of Hasan and he is going to run three down to long off – a very good innings from Cameron Green. Oh how Australia needed that. How he needed that, his first half ton in his last 13 innings.

It’s his eighth Test fifty, and it’s come off 109 balls.

The deficit is 50 now, and Bangladesh are half way through the Australian batting line up.

Mehidy comes wide and tries to get Webster pushing forward. He does push forward but uses those enormous levers to get to the pitch and smother the little turn that’s there.
