An urgent search is underway after a man was allegedly shot at a property before being bundled into the back of a ute northwest of Melbourne.

The incident started as an argument on a property on Wildwood road and resulted in one man allegedly being shot at about 7.35pm on Wednesday, Victoria Police said in a statement.

Police allege 56-year-old Meadow Heights man attended the property with two associates, who fled and called triple-0 after the shooting.

It is alleged a 55-year-old Wildwood man shot the Meadow Heights man, before placing him in the back of his ute and driving off.

CCTV of the black Mitsubishi Triton was later captured at a BP service station on the corner of Mickleham and Somerton Rds in Greenvale at 12.49am.

The same vehicle was seen at a Liberty service station on Mickleham road six minutes later.

Police have instigated an urgent search for the injured individual and are working with the Air Wing, Dog Squad and other specialist units within the area.

“Police are investigating whether the victim may have escaped and is still in the area injured or on foot, or whether he may have been left somewhere.”

Officers received a triple-0 call for a suspicious fire on Lancefield Rd at 4am.
