A 19-year-old NEET aspirant died by suicide at his home in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, with police saying he had reportedly been distressed over his lower-than-expected score in the medical entrance examination. In a note addressed to his parents, he wrote: “Sorry Aai and Appa, in my next life I will become a doctor for you.”
The deceased, identified as Suraj Subhash Shinde, was preparing for NEET from home in Khandala village of Vaijapur taluka. According to preliminary police investigation, he had been upset after scoring fewer marks than expected in the examination.

Before taking the extreme step, Suraj left behind a two-line note apologising to his parents. He wrote, “Sorry Aai and Appa, in my next life I will become a doctor for you. Take care of yourselves and stay happy.”
At the time of the incident, Suraj’s family members had gone out to attend a week-long religious programme being held in the village.
The family returned home at around 2 pm on Wednesday and tried calling Suraj, but his phone was switched off. His younger sister then went upstairs and found him hanging in a room.
After hearing her screams, family members rushed to the room and took Suraj to Vaijapur Sub-District Hospital. Doctors examined him and declared him dead.
Suraj’s last rites were performed amid a sombre atmosphere. Vaijapur police have registered a case of accidental death and are conducting further investigations.
Police are examining the circumstances surrounding his death, including whether disappointment over his NEET score played a role.
