Madelyn Cline has a rare sense of “relatability”, according to Marc Webb.
The 28-year-old actress stars alongside Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz in Day Drinker, the upcoming action thriller film, and Marc, the movie’s director, has revealed what initially drew him towards hiring Madelyn.
Marc told The Hollywood Reporter: “We looked at a lot of people. But Maddie has a high profile for a young actor — with her social media presence and how well Outer Banks had done — so I went back and watched her show, really studied her performance and I really enjoyed what she had done.
“She’s beautiful and talented but also has a relatability that I thought was very appealing.”
Marc explained that Madelyn’s temperament was the perfect foil for Johnny.
The director said: “Johnny’s not one to be particularly vulnerable. He’s a dancer, a trickster — one of the great virtuoso actors of our time, but he doesn’t cry on camera.
“So, I needed somebody who could embrace a kind of pathos and give the movie a heart. And Maddie is very good at that.”
Madelyn previously starred alongside Daniel Craig, Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Janelle Monae, and Jada Pinkett Smith in Knives Out 2, the 2022 murder mystery movie.
The actress explained that she relished spending time with the film’s star-studded cast.
She said on The Tonight Show: “I’m filming the sequel to Knives Out, and I’m very, very excited about it.
“I’m just going to be completely honest with you, it’s the most mind-blowing, terrifying experience ever. You know how you have moments in life where you just look around, and you look at life, and you’re like, ‘How in the s*** did I get here?'”
Madelyn loved working with some of her acting heroes.
She shared: “I feel very lucky, but I walk onto set everyday and it feels like a miniature existential crisis, because I’m working with people I’ve looked up to for my entire life. And now I’m getting to work alongside them, and they’re phenomenal people, but it’s a bit of a … It’s terrifying, but it’s also incredible. It’s super-amazing; it’s the experience of a lifetime.”
