Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee on Tuesday got interim protection from the Calcutta High Court, which barred coercive action against him in cases registered across West Bengal until November 30.
A single bench of Justice Saugata Bhattacharya also clarified that, for now, Banerjee’s plea seeking protection from coercive action and dismissal of the FIRs would be confined to three specific cases.

The court said custodial interrogation was not necessary in the three cases and directed the Trinamool leader to cooperate with the investigation and appear before the police whenever called.
The police, however, will have to give him at least 48 hours’ notice before requiring his appearance.
In his plea, Banerjee also told the court that he was unaware of several FIRs being registered against him and had sought police assistance to ensure that he was informed about such cases.
During the hearing, the High Court further directed the state to provide Banerjee with copies of all FIRs and complaints registered against him.
The court will hear the matter next on November 23, when the police will be required to submit a report.
The High Court also clarified that its order would not restrict Banerjee’s right to travel abroad for medical treatment.
The TMC MP had recently told the Supreme Court that he needed to travel abroad for treatment, and the apex court had permitted him to do so subject to certain conditions.
The Calcutta High Court said Tuesday’s order would not curtail his right to travel abroad for treatment in accordance with the Supreme Court’s order and its conditions.
