The World Bank Group Young Professionals Programme (YPP) is opening its application portal for the 2027 cohort on September 1, 2026.

Designed for talented early-career professionals interested in global development, the programme offers the chance to work across the World Bank, International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).

This is not a conventional graduate job. Selected candidates enter a structured two-year programme involving technical work, international rotations, leadership training, mentoring and exposure to senior World Bank Group professionals. Successful participants can then move into a further five-year role based on performance.

Here’s what applicants need to know before the application window opens.

THIS IS WHAT THE PROGRAMME OFFERS

The YPP is the World Bank Group’s flagship leadership development programme for professionals who want to work on global development challenges.

Selected Young Professionals can expect:

  • A two-year structured programme.

  • An initial posting at World Bank Group headquarters, followed by field rotations.

  • Work exposure across the World Bank, IFC and MIGA.

  • Technical and leadership training.

  • Coaching and mentoring.

  • Opportunities to work with senior leaders.

  • International professional experience.

  • Strategic networking opportunities.

  • A further five-year role based on successful performance, with the possibility of contract renewal.

The programme is offered as a GF-level term appointment. The World Bank Group says the offer includes a salary and comprehensive benefits package, with the exact terms communicated to successful candidates.

THREE ROTATIONS, TWO YEARS, GLOBAL EXPOSURE

The programme is built around three mandatory rotations, each lasting eight months.

Candidates will complete:

  • One rotation in their primary function and area of expertise.

  • One cross-institutional rotation.

  • At least one rotation based in a country office.

The aim is to give Young Professionals a wider understanding of the World Bank Group’s work while helping them build technical knowledge, professional networks and international experience.

WHICH TRACK CAN YOU CHOOSE?

Candidates can apply under one of two broad tracks:

  • Operations

  • Specialised Functions

The World Bank Group also asks applicants to select a stream that matches their technical expertise and professional background.

These areas include:

The World Bank Group says at least two years of full-time work experience following completion of undergraduate studies is required. Relevant part-time experience and internships may also count towards the required experience in certain circumstances.
