Tennis legend Roger Federer has spent years walking into packed tennis stadiums to roaring crowds. This time, he walked a red carpet in New York City instead, and his shy reaction was the sweetest part.
Federer was greeted in the streets of NYC with a surprise from viral content creator Andrew Wave, better known online as the Red Carpet Guy.
In a video shared on social media, Wave was seen rolling out his trademark crimson carpet for Federer, giving the 20-time Grand Slam champion his own celebrity entrance.

Federer, however, appeared far more bashful than one might expect from someone who spent decades walking into packed stadiums in front of millions of fans.
As the carpet was laid out, Federer walked along it with a shy smile, waving at fans gathered around him. He eventually posed alongside Wave, completing the unexpected red-carpet cameo.

Wave has made a name for himself by carrying a portable red carpet through major cities including Paris, London, Hong Kong and Vienna. His simple premise is to surprise unsuspecting strangers by rolling out a carpet in their path and giving them a few seconds to feel like a celebrity.
The reactions range from spontaneous poses and dances to people simply walking down the carpet with a grin. The videos have turned ordinary streets into tiny, impromptu premieres, celebrating people who otherwise might never find themselves in the spotlight.
With Federer, though, the concept found a fitting subject. The Swiss icon has spent much of his career being treated like a celebrity, but the video captured a softer, more understated side of him.
Federer retired from professional tennis in 2022, bringing an end to one of the sport’s most celebrated careers. He won 20 Grand Slam singles titles, including a record eight Wimbledon crowns, and spent 310 weeks as world No 1.
And while he may no longer be regularly walking onto tennis courts for competitive matches, Federer recently returned to Arthur Ashe Stadium, where he shared the spotlight with longtime rival and friend Andy Roddick.
The exhibition match saw Federer roll back the years, producing trademark backhand winners before beating Roddick 6-3.
