Leah Remini is joining the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
The King of Queens actress has taken to Instagram to confirm recent reports she will appear on the upcoming 16th season of the Bravo reality show, though it is unclear if she will be a full-time cast member of a “friend of”.
Leah shared a headline from Variety’s report on her joining the show, which was accompanied by a photo from a previous appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, and wrote: “It’s true.”
News of Leah’s casting came a week after former Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles star Tracy Tutor announced she is joining Real Housewives of Beverly Hills too.
And Tracy commented on Leah’s post: “Well I’m pumped! This is going to be [fire emoji].”
Friends of the cast Kathy Hilton and Jennifer Tilly also shared their excitement.
Kathy commented: “[Hands up emojis] can’t wait to meet you!!![heart emojis] (sic)”
Jennifer exclaimed: “Oh my gosh! Welcome! We are going to have so much fun!”
It seems Leah has been a target for producers for some time.
Executive producer Andy Cohen commented: “AT LONG LAST!!! [diamond and heart emojis] (sic)”
Leah and Tracy will be joining returning Housewives Kyle Richards, Erika ‘Jayne’ Girardi, Dorit Kemsley, Bozoma Saint John, Rachel Zoe and Sutton Stracke. Amanda Frances – who joined the cast for season 15 – will not be returning.
Season 16 has already begun filming, with several cast members – though not the newcomers – attending Bozoma’s wedding to Keely Watson in Ghana last week.
Leah will start filming in Los Angeles later this week, Variety reports.
The 56-year-old actress has become best known in recent years for her criticism of the Church of Scientology, which she alleged made threats to her life.
Leah joined the group aged 13 when her mother became a member, and described the organisation’s control over every aspect of her life in a candid interview about the impact it has had on her and her family’s lives.
She previously told Us Weekly: They’ve (used) a Scientology term that means to kill me (and) basically to erase me from the face of the earth.
“When you talk to a lawyer, they say, ‘It’s going to cost you more to defend yourself than to pay them off.’
“And Scientology knows that.”
A representative for the Church told the outlet: “All allegations of harassment, break-ins and other salacious alleged conduct are false.”
Leah added about her time in the Church: “We (had) to report to our ethics departments – the Scientology police — and that’s an everyday activity.
“Once your parents become Scientologists, they’re no longer your parents.”
Her break from the Church came after she was ordered to cut ties with her mother and stepfather for allegedly violating Scientology policy.
She said: “That’s when I found the Brooklyn girl in me.”
