Dolly Parton’s Broadway show will still debut as planned following her death.

The 9 to 5 hitmaker – who passed away on Tuesday (25.08.26) at the age of 80 following a “brief battle” with cancer – wrote new songs for DOLLY: A True Original Musical, which will also feature classics from her back catalogue, and as per her wishes, the production will start previews in New York later this year, show bosses have confirmed.

Producers confirmed in a statement: “As was Dolly’s wish, the Broadway production of DOLLY: A True Original Musical will begin previews December 7 at the St. James Theatre in New York City with opening set for January 19, 2027, what would have been her 81st birthday.”

Fans are unlikely to be surprised by the news because Dolly’s manager Danny Nozell has also revealed her team have a “project roadmap” from the Jolene singer herself, which will keep her legacy alive “for decades to come”.

Danny said in a statement: “Dolly worked up until the day she died. She loved seeing her dreams come to life, and loved knowing her work brought people joy.

“Ever the planner, Dolly worked with the team that she handpicked, for the past several years to build a project roadmap that will guide us for decades to come.”

As reported by Deadline, the upcoming projects in the pipeline include an avatar show, a musical documentary, a docuseries, a biopic, a scripted series, and an animated series based on Billy the Kid.

Danny promised to “ensure the many dreams she had yet to fulfil are brought to life”.

He added: “Many projects were in various stages of development, and we want to be transparent with her fans about this fact.

“If you see unreleased music, products, books, experiences, and campaigns launched through official Dolly Parton channels, you can have confidence in knowing that she placed her personal stamp on it.”

Dolly had a number of active projects when she passed away, including her Tennessean Travel Stops marking National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, which starts on September 13.

The following day, Dolly Parton’s SongTeller Hotel will be available for stays, with the grand opening coming on September 29, when her Life Of Many Colors Museum will also launch.

Dolly Dolls will launch online on September 15, followed by her Cup of Ambition Coffee on September 29, with a retail launch next spring.

Finally, Dolly on the Holly is coming this festive season.
