Kuku Kohli prayer meet: Vicky-Katrina, Asha Parekh, Anil Kapoor pay tribute

Several members of the film industry gathered at the prayer meet of late filmmaker Kuku Kohli in Mumbai on August 29 to pay their last respects. Vicky Kaushal, Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff and Anupam Kher were among the celebrities who attended the gathering at Celebration Sports Club in Andheri West.

Kuku Kohli, best known for directing Ajay Devgn’s debut film Phool Aur Kaante, died on August 25 at the age of 77 after suffering a heart attack.

Kohli’s wife, veteran actor Aruna Irani, was visibly emotional as she arrived at the prayer meet with family members.

Videos from the gathering showed Aruna surrounded by family members and well-wishers as she made her way into the venue.

Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif arrived at the prayer meet with Vicky’s father, veteran action director Sham Kaushal. The couple had also attended Kuku Kohli’s funeral earlier this week.

Anil Kapoor was also present at the prayer meet. Dressed in black, the actor was seen speaking to Aruna Irani and offering his condolences. In a video from the gathering, Anil could be seen holding Aruna’s hand as he spoke to her.

Rajpal Yadav, Gajendra Chauhan, Sunny Kaushal, Jackie Shroff and Anupam Kher were among the other celebrities who attended the prayer meet.

Veteran actors Asha Parekh, Madhoo and Poonam Dhillon also arrived to pay their respects. Ketki Dave attended the gathering with her mother, veteran actor Sarita Joshi.

Kohli died at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai after his health deteriorated suddenly. According to reports, he had complained of feeling unwell on Monday night and suffered a mild heart attack. He was taken to hospital, where doctors performed an angioplasty.

He was reportedly stable after the procedure, but his condition worsened the following day. At around 5.15 pm on August 25, he suffered a cardiac arrest, with Aruna Irani by his side at the hospital.

Born Avtar Kohli, the filmmaker began his career by assisting Raj Kapoor and spent around 11 years working with him on films such as Bobby, Prem Rog and Satyam Shivam Sundaram. He later worked with Rahul Rawail as a second-unit director on films including Betaab and Arjun.
