Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Uzbekistan on Saturday on a two-day official visit, where he was welcomed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and later received a warm reception from members of the Indian community in Tashkent. During the visit, Modi is scheduled to hold delegation-level talks with Mirziyoyev to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.
This is Modi’s fourth visit to Uzbekistan and the first leg of his two-nation tour, which also includes the Kyrgyz Republic. The visit is aimed at strengthening India’s strategic partnerships in Central Asia and deepening the civilisational connect with the region.

After arriving in Tashkent, Modi said on X, “Landed in Tashkent to a warm welcome by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Grateful to him for the special gesture. This is my fourth visit to Uzbekistan, reflecting the depth and growing momentum of our bilateral relations.” President Mirziyoyev welcomed him at the airport.
Modi then visited Yangi Uzbekiston Park and laid a wreath at the Independence Monument. President Mirziyoyev accompanied him to the monument, which was established on the 30th anniversary of the country’s independence and symbolises the ideals of freedom and goodness. Modi said in another post on X, “Upon landing in Tashkent, went to lay a wreath at the Yangi Uzbekistan Monument with President Mirziyoyev. The Yangi Uzbekistan Monument reflects the aspirations and progress of the Uzbek people. Glad to begin my visit by coming here.”
Later, the prime minister met members of the Indian community at a hotel in Tashkent. He watched Kathak and Andijan Polka dance performances by the Indian diaspora and also saw children from Uzbekistan perform to the Indian song ‘Ude Jab Jab Zulfe Teri’. He also watched a fusion performance featuring the tabla with traditional Uzbek instruments, the Doira and Chang.
Responding to the reception, Modi said in a social media post, “Overwhelmed by the warmth and affection of the Indian community in Tashkent. Our diaspora is a living bridge between India and Uzbekistan, strengthening the bonds of friendship between our nations.” The visit combines official talks, ceremonial engagements and outreach to the Indian community as India and Uzbekistan look to build on their growing ties.
