A 20-year-old driver is due to be charged with drink-driving after smashing his father’s car into a tree and then going home for a shower in Melbourne’s south.
A Ford Fiesta crashed into a tree on the Nepean Highway in Dromana about 11.15pm on Sunday night.
When police arrived, they found a mangled car smashed into a tree, with no driver inside.
They believe the crash happened earlier that night, with the driver fleeing the scene.
Images from the scene showed the car swamped by trees, its front smashed in completely.
Police located the house of the registered owner and spoke with a 20-year-old from Safety Beach.
It was then he allegedly “made full admissions he was the driver involved before heading home to have a shower”.
The car belonged to the man’s father and has since been written off.

Police said the 20-year-old “incredibly” didn’t sustain any serious injuries during the crash but was taken to hospital for assessment.
He underwent a breath test and allegedly returned a reading of .07.
The man is due to be charged on summons with drink-driving and traffic offences and his licence will be disqualified for a period of six months.
