A son has a lot of making up to do ahead of Father’s Day after crashing his dad’s car and leaving the mangled vehicle in a ditch.
Emergency services were called to the Melbourne seaside suburb of Dromana following reports a Ford Fiesta had crashed into a tree on the Nepean highway at 11.15pm on Sunday.
Police found the mangled car abandoned and believe the crash occurred earlier in the evening.
When officers attended the home of the registered owner, a 20-year-old Safety Beach man admitted that he was the driver and had headed home to have a shower after the crash.
Despite not sustaining any serious injuries, the man was taken to hospital for assessment and underwent a breath test, returning an alleged reading of .07.
He is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving and traffic offences and his license will be disqualified for a period of six months.
The car, believed to belong to the driver’s father, was a write off.
