A plea challenging the NEET-PG 2026 re-examination for 2,445 candidates was mentioned before the Supreme Court on Wednesday, September 2.
The matter was brought before a bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana. An advocate told the bench that the re-examination was in violation of an earlier order passed by the top court and sought an urgent hearing.

The bench, however, directed the advocate to approach the designated bench hearing NEET-related matters.
“All NEET matters are before the designated bench led by Justice Narasimha. Go and mention it before that bench. Several developments take place in these matters,” the bench said.
WHY ARE 2,445 CANDIDATES GETTING A RE-EXAM?
The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences is set to conduct a re-examination for 2,445 candidates affected by technical disruptions during the NEET-PG 2026 examination.
The NEET-PG 2026 exam was conducted on August 30. According to the official notice, 2,65,980 candidates appeared for the examination.
While the examination was completed successfully for 2,63,535 candidates, technical issues affected 2,445 candidates, prompting the decision to hold a re-examination for them.
The re-examination has now become the subject of a legal challenge, with the petitioner questioning whether conducting a separate test for the affected candidates is consistent with the Supreme Court’s earlier directions.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
The latest development does not mean the re-examination has been cancelled. The court only directed the advocate to take the plea before the designated bench dealing with NEET matters.
Candidates affected by the technical disruption will therefore need to wait for further directions from the Supreme Court and NBEMS on the re-examination.
