A tourist bus travelling towards Gujarat caught fire beneath the Goregaon East Metro station in Mumbai on Friday evening, triggering a brief disruption on the busy stretch. The incident was reported around 6.15 pm near the Cheknaka signal under Oberoi Garden City Metro Station. All passengers and the driver were reported safe.
According to preliminary information, the bus, identified as Mahadeo Traveler bearing registration number MJ 01 AN 1695, had five passengers on board.

Driver Nijar Kapadia was also in the vehicle when the fire broke out. No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.
A video from the spot shows the private tourist bus engulfed in flames beneath the metro station, with thick smoke rising from the vehicle as emergency personnel respond to the incident. The footage also captures the disruption caused by the fire on the road.
After receiving information about the blaze, personnel from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, police, 108 ambulance services and metro authorities were mobilised to the spot.
Firefighters launched an operation to contain the flames and subsequently brought the fire under control. The affected stretch was cleared after the firefighting operation, allowing traffic movement to resume.
Initial assessment suggests that a technical defect may have triggered the fire, although officials are yet to establish the exact cause. Further details regarding the circumstances leading to the blaze are awaited.
Officials are expected to conduct a detailed assessment of the vehicle to determine the precise cause of the fire. Further information is likely to emerge as police and fire authorities complete their preliminary inquiry.
