A 35-year-old disabled man was allegedly killed by his father with an axe following a family dispute in Bihar’s Munger district, police said. The incident took place in a village under the Shyampur police station area. The victim, identified as Chandrashekhar Manjhi, was reportedly asleep when his father, Tilo Manjhi, attacked him with an axe, striking him on the head.

According to the initial investigation, the father and son had a dispute over an unspecified issue, which escalated and ended in the fatal attack. Chandrashekhar’s death left his wife, son and daughter devastated.

The incident came to light after news of the killing spread through the village, prompting local residents to gather at the spot and alert the police.

Shyampur police station in-charge Abhishek Kumar reached the village with his team after receiving the information and began investigating the incident.

Police recovered the axe allegedly used in the killing from the scene. A forensic science laboratory (FSL) team also visited the spot and collected evidence. The body was taken into custody and sent to Sadar Hospital in Munger for post-mortem examination.

Munger Superintendent of Police (SP) Syed Imran Masood confirmed that the initial investigation points to a family dispute as the reason behind the killing.

He said police inspected the crime scene and the FSL team collected evidence. The weapon allegedly used in the attack has been recovered, while the accused father remains absconding.

Police have launched raids to trace and arrest Tilo Manjhi. Further investigation is underway.
