Western Bulldogs midfielder Adam Treloar has closed the curtain on his AFL career.
Treloar played for three clubs – GWS, Collingwood and Western Bulldogs – amassing 263 games.
The veteran clearance winner played the majority of those games at the Magpies before rejuvenating his career at the Bulldogs in 2021.
Treloar requested a trade to the Magpies at the end of 2015, famously believing they offered a better chance at success than rival suitor Richmond.
He was again traded to the Bulldogs during Collingwood’s clean-out ahead of Nathan Buckley’s final season as coach.
Treloar, 33, was plagued by soft-tissue injuries towards the end of his career but was a damaging line-breaker in his prime.
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have come to the conclusion that I am retiring,” Treloar said.
“I will never forget the moment that I fell in love with the game of footy – I was that seven-year-old boy that just wanted to be like his older brother, follow in his footsteps and play the game.
“I was a kid from Dandenong who grew up with nothing except a loving family. All I ever wanted to do was make my friends and family proud.
“That young boy would be so proud – never in my wildest dreams did I think I would play one AFL game – so to be here after 16 seasons, it is something I am extremely proud of.
“I am forever grateful to the Western Bulldogs Football Club and hopefully one day my daughter Georgie is running out in the red, white and blue.
“I will always be a Bulldogs person; I couldn’t speak more highly of the place and the people that work here.”
He won an Anzac Day Medal in 2018, made the All-Australian team in 2024 and played in two grand finals in 2018 and 2021.
Treloar was brilliant in both losing deciders, collecting 26 disposals and 11 tackles in 2018 before 27 disposals and three goals in 2021.
He played just nine senior games across the past two seasons but featured in Footscray’s VFL premiership last year.
Treloar’s decision follows fellow Dog Tom Liberatore’s retirement on Tuesday.
