Sunday, September 20, is shaping up to be another action-packed day for India at the 2026 Asian Games, with medal opportunities, knockout clashes and the start of new campaigns spread across several sports.

The spotlight will first fall on women’s cricket, with India taking on Bangladesh in the semifinal. With a place in the final at stake, it is one of the biggest contests on India’s schedule for the day.

Hockey will also take centre stage as both the Indian women’s and men’s teams begin their group-stage campaigns. The two sides will be looking to start their respective Asian Games journeys on a positive note as they target deep runs in the competition.

There is also a potential medal moment waiting in teqball. Quimcy Joaqim Dsouza will have two opportunities to fight for bronze, competing in both the women’s singles and mixed doubles events. A podium finish would be significant for India, with the sport potentially delivering the country’s first Asian Games medal in teqball.

Early morning action

The day’s action gets underway with India involved in combat sports. Suchika Tariyal will compete in the women’s traditional -60kg MMA quarterfinal, while Suraj Singh Mayanglambam will be aiming for a medal in the men’s changquan final in wushu.

Shooting will provide another major medal opportunity, with India’s women’s 10m air rifle team taking aim at the podium.

Meanwhile, India’s table tennis teams, swimmers and women’s badminton players will all be continuing their respective campaigns.

More action through the afternoon

The schedule remains busy as the day progresses, with more hockey, table tennis and wushu events on the cards.

Swimming could bring another set of medal opportunities later in the day, with Indian swimmers potentially featuring in the finals if they successfully navigate their heats.

Wushu will remain on India’s radar as Vikrant Baliyan and Aparna take to the competition arena, adding to what promises to be a packed day for the Indian contingent.

From a semifinal in cricket and the opening matches in hockey to potential medals in shooting, wushu and teqball, Sunday has plenty on offer. With athletes competing across the length of the schedule, India will be hoping to keep its medal tally moving while several campaigns enter crucial stages.
