Asus may have had a data breach that potentially impacts millions of customers globally. As per a new report, the Taiwanese company has informed customers that certain data including contact details and order records may be at risk.
As per a report from KitGuru, Asus has sent an email to registered Asus eShop customers. Asus eShop is the company’s e-commerce platform. “Asus identified unauthorised access to part of the Asus eShop environment,” the email reads. “Our investigation indicates that certain customer order information, including contact details and order records, may have been accessed.”

Asus eShop is a major platform where users can buy the company’s products. According to Grips Intelligence, a market research platform, eShop had an annual revenue of $1.3 billion last year.
India Today Tech has reached out to Asus for a comment. The story will be updated as and when the company responds.
Asus says no payment details at risk
Though Asus clarified in the email that the breach does not include any payment information such as bank account details. The company also says it is “not currently aware of any misuse of this information or any harm suffered by affected individuals.”
Asus assured customers that it had taken steps to “contain” the breach after it identified the issue. While the company has secured the affected systems, it has not found the cause of the hack yet. “Our investigation remains ongoing and we have not identified any evidence of ongoing unauthorised access,” the email states.
The company warned users that the customer information in this hack may be used by “third parties” to potentially fraud users. The company says this could be done via “convincing emails, text messages or telephone calls that appear to relate to Asus products, services or orders.”
In December last year, Asus disclosed a separate incident. At the time, the company said that one of its suppliers had been hacked after the Everest ransomware group claimed it had stolen more than 1TB of data from the company. This incident, Asus added, affected some camera source code for Asus phones. Though it did not affect the company’s products or user privacy.
