Sarah Ferguson is said to have received a string of seven-figure offers for a new autobiography as she apparently considers putting her version of the controversies that have engulfed her and her former husband Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor into print.
The 66-year-old former Duchess of York is reportedly close to securing a publishing agreement in the US, with a chapter-by-chapter synopsis already prepared covering potential subjects including her ex Andrew, Jeffrey Epstein, King Charles III, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The proposed book would be Sarah’s latest attempt to tell her own story after publishing My Story in 1996 and Finding Sarah: A Duchess’s Journey to Find Herself in 2011.
A source told the Sun: “Sarah wants to set the record straight about everything and earn some money to resolve her financial issues.
“There has been a secret bidding war and a deal is close to being secured.
“The notes are compelling and the bidders are excited.
“Fergie is ever the optimist and believes she can be forgiven and welcomed back.”
People close to Sarah acknowledged to The Sun she had received “a number of deals”, although they said direct negotiations had not yet taken place and disputed suggestions she wanted to produce a “tell all” account of recent royal scandals.
Any new memoir would arrive during another turbulent period for the royal family and follows the publication this week of Swan Song: Diana, My Sister by Charles Spencer, 62.
Charles’ book contains a series of claims about his sister Diana, Princess of Wales, and her relationship with the royal family, including his account of disagreements with the then Prince Charles following Diana’s death.
Buckingham Palace has challenged elements of Charles’s recollections, while Charles has defended his account.
The book has already generated another dispute after Charles apologised to Piers Morgan, 61, for an “incorrect assumption” concerning the publication of photographs of Diana after Piers threatened legal action over the claim.
Sarah herself features in Swan Song.
Charles writes about the friendship between Sarah and Diana and says Diana had at one stage been jealous of the support Sarah received from her family.
Sarah and Diana were no longer speaking at the time of Diana’s death.
A potential autobiography would also come after months of renewed scrutiny of Sarah’s past association with Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex offender who died in a New York jail in 2019.
Sarah has faced renewed attention following the release of documents relating to Epstein.
There is no suggestion Sarah has committed a criminal offence in relation to her friendship with the predator.
Her former husband Andrew, 66, remains the subject of a Thames Valley police investigation into alleged misconduct in public office following material released under the US Epstein Files Transparency Act.
