The Showdown is set for another layer of theatre next season after Adelaide forward Luke Pedlar requested a trade to cross-town rival Port Adelaide.
Pedlar had a breakout season in 2023, booting 25 goals, but has struggled with injury and form since then.
Only seven players, most recently Billy Frampton, have played for both South Australian clubs.
Pedlar has played 49 games as a Crow since being drafted with Pick No. 11 in the 2020 national draft.
Both Adelaide and Port Adelaide released statements on Monday afternoon.
“Adelaide forward Luke Pedlar has informed Port Adelaide he wishes to join the club during the upcoming Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period,” Port Adelaide wrote.
“The 24-year-old South Australian was drafted with pick 11 to the Crows in the 2020 national draft and has since played 49 games at AFL level.
“Port Adelaide will work with Adelaide to facilitate a trade for Pedlar when the trade period opens on Monday, 5 October.”
Adelaide echoed much of what Port Adelaide wrote, subtly reinstating it holds the upper hand by Pedlar not having met free agency status.
“Crows forward Luke Pedlar has requested a trade to Port Adelaide,” Adelaide wrote.
“The 24-year-old has played 49 games for the Club since joining via Pick 11 in the 2020 National Draft.
“Pedlar is out of contract but not a free agent.”
Pedlar played six seasons at Adelaide, meaning he does not meet the seven-year requirement to exercise free agency.
