An interior designer was left spooked after being tasked with renovating a seemingly haunted house in Ohio.
Property expert John Ryan, from Florida, was given the chance to update historic Bihl Manor, which was built in 1898, in Fremont, Ohio and he filmed the renovation for TV series A Very Haunted Renovation – and the designer has now admitted spending six weeks on the site has changed his views on ghosts and he is now a believer.
Recalling his experiences of working on the project, he told PEOPLE: “It was like a home that you see in a horror movie. There’s just this eerie feeling about it… It was straight out of a movieThe first thing that I really noticed was just the shift in temperature.
“It was cold, and you’d walk through these different parts of the home and you can just feel it. I mean, it was wild.”
John admitted he nearly quit the project several times as he battled strange feelings which could be connected to the rumoured haunting.
He said: “There were at least three or four times where I’m like, ‘I can’t do this, like I need to go’. I just felt drained; my energy was just not there.”
The crew working on the project started using paranormal-investigation tools which monitor electromagnetic fields and temperature changes in a bid to learn about the home’s former owners and the results gave John a new outlook on the idea of ghosts.
He explained: “We did some REM pods [ghost-hunting equipment] .
“It was wild, because I’ve never experienced that. I don’t know if I’ve ever really believed in it, but I mean, I’m a believer now.”
“We learned a lot of information about the owners of the house and their children and what that house over the years has been.”
The team gave the building a complete makeover but they made sure the renovations were sympathetic to the house’s history and John is convinced any spirits still lurking there are likely to have been impressed with the changes.
He went on to add: “I think we did a great job sticking to the whole Victorian era. We left the spirits very happy
