In a video of the moment that has gone viral, the officer was seen leaning towards the protester and whispering to them before quietly clarifying their gender and proceeding with the detention.

The protester then told the officer, “You can’t detain me, ma’am. I’m a journalist, I have a card.” The officer asked, “You need women?” to which the protester responded, “I’m a transgender.”
However, despite the clarification, the police personnel then escorted them away from the protest site.

As the video garnered thousands of views, several people applauded the officer for the “thoughtful” manner in which she handled the situation. There were many others who also commended the cop for her “presence of mind.”
The video, however, did not provide further details about the protester’s identity, the reason for their detention or what happened after they were taken away from the site.
The incident occurred amid protests at Jantar Mantar, where demonstrators had gathered demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The protests were centred on demands concerning electoral-roll revisions and the functioning of the Election Commission.
