Big Hits looks at notable drill hits reported to the ASX this week, with Dalaroo Metals stealing the show and Power Minerals and Midas Minerals snapping at its heels. So let’s dive in.
DALAROO METALS LTD (ASX: DAL)
Project: Bondoukou gold ridge project, Côte d’Ivoire
Hit: 18m at 7.31g/t gold from 63m downhole.
Grassroots exploration triumphs are the lifeblood of junior resource players, and this week Dalaroo Metals claimed the top step on the podium after turning a compelling structural story targeting a distinct magnetic geophysical corridor into a premier West African gold discovery.
Undertaking the first-ever drilling campaign across its highly prospective terrain in north-eastern Côte d’Ivoire, the company delivered spectacular high-grade bedrock intercepts from the very first fence of holes put into its Wilfred target.
The headline reverse circulation hole punched through strongly silicified volcaniclastic rock to return 18 metres at 7.31 grams per tonne gold (g/t) from a depth of 63 metres downhole. Highlighting the robust grade distribution within the core of this system, every single one-metre sample within the interval returned more than 1.72g/t gold, with a peak individual assay roaring up to 15.9g/t gold from a depth of 78m.
What makes the performance globally significant is that the gold mineralisation appears broad, continuous, and remarkably shallow. A second ‘scissor’ hole, drilled from the opposite direction to confirm the target’s structural architecture, successfully collared near-surface oxide mineralisation, returning 23 metres at 2.14g/t gold from surface.
Together, the first two scissored holes successfully intersected gold from both directions across multiple fresh rock and oxide zones. This spectacular double-strike provides immediate confirmation of a well-developed, structurally controlled gold system sitting within the prominent Birimian greenstone belt, a prolific geological province in Côte d’Ivoire endowed with many multi-million-ounce gold deposits.
The commercial appeal of the project is underscored by the immense scale of the target corridor, which has seen its footprint grow rapidly to an estimated seven kilometres of strike length, following the company’s soil sampling and shallow auger drilling campaigns.
The newly defined corridor incorporates the company’s priority Mag, Wilfred, and Ali targets, which sit right at the heart of an active exploration district just 35 kilometres from other major regional operations.
With a massive exploration runway, these breakthrough results represent only the opening salvo of a bigger 102-hole broadside against the task ahead. Dalaroo’s drill rods are spinning around the clock on day and night shifts, with a hefty backlog of assays still to come as the company charges towards a potential maiden mineral resource estimate.
POWER MINERALS LTD (ASX: PNN)
Project: Morro do Ferro rare earths project, Brazil
Hit: 119m at 4.94 per cent total rare earth oxides from surface
Securing second place on the Big Hits podium is Power Minerals, which has dramatically amplified the commercial scale of its South American critical minerals strategy with a truly massive rare earths intersection.
Stepping out with a major resource definition campaign at its flagship project in Brazil, the company demonstrated the immense tonnage potential of the Morro do Ferro prospect by logging an exceptionally thick, high-grade mineralised envelope.
The standout diamond hole delivered a continuous, bulk-tonnage run of 119 metres at 4.94 per cent total rare earth oxides (TREO), beginning directly from surface.
The intercept represents an outstanding accumulation of shallow mineralisation, backed up by a second deep hole on the same section that returned 98 metres at 5.09 per cent TREO, further reinforcing the exceptional grade consistency of this deposit.
Crucially for the economics of the project, the massive geological system is heavily enriched with the highly valuable chemical elements required to fuel the global energy transition.
The initial 119-metre surface interval carried a premium magnet rare earth oxide (MREO) grade of 0.89 per cent, or 8906 parts per million (ppm), which represents a vital volume of the essential elements neodymium, praseodymium, dysprosium, and terbium.
Within the broader mineralised body, tighter high-grade zones continue to emerge at depth, highlighted by a rich 10-metre interval at 12.31 per cent TREO from 41 metres downhole, packing a hefty 1.88 per cent – or 18,789ppm MREO.
The consistent thickness and exceptional grade profile recorded from the surface position the deposit as an incredibly cost-effective, bulk-tonnage target with negligible overburden.
The company is rapidly progressing its engineering and trade-off studies to capitalise on the deposit’s shallow regolith architecture. Concurrently, the company is undertaking metallurgical testwork alongside the expanded diamond program, providing a strong technical foundation as the project moves rapidly toward a landmark resource update over the coming months.
MIDAS MINERALS LTD. (ASX: MM1)
Project: Otavi copper-silver project, Namibia
Hit: 22.6m at 4.67 per cent copper and 70.9g/t silver from 347.5m
Midas Minerals rounds out the podium with third place for this week, successfully broadening the commercial parameters of its African base metals portfolio by uncovering high-grade extensions at its premium Otavi project in Namibia.
Targeting the outer margins of the known high-grade part of the deposit’s Main Zone, step-out diamond drilling shattered previous structural limits by intercepting broad, high-grade base metal and silver mineralisation.
The breakthrough hole delivered a strong downhole composite of 22.6 metres assaying 6.01 per cent copper equivalent, which comprised a length-weighted average of 4.67 per cent copper and 70.9 grams per tonne (g/t) silver from a depth of 347.5 metres.
The broad intercept is anchored by an exceptionally rich interior core which returned an outstanding 10 metres going 11.55 per cent copper equivalent from 355.5 metres depth downhole.
The discovery of those high-grade extensions on the edges of the central deposit is structurally significant for the junior explorer. It provides definitive evidence that the hydrothermal copper-silver system remains open, well-developed and expanding laterally well beyond the boundaries of the previous geological model.
A second step-out hole on a separate traverse successfully mirrored this lateral continuity, returning a wide intercept of 33.2 metres at 2.51 per cent copper equivalent from 310.3 metres, further confirming that major mineralised zones extend into previously undrilled blocks.
The company has established a commanding exploration position across the highly endowed Otavi copper belt, a premier mining jurisdiction in Namibia featuring excellent regional infrastructure and ready proximity to operating processing facilities.
By proving that the richest parts of the copper-rich system continue to step out laterally, the current campaign has materially de-risked Midas’ geological model. The company has seven operational drill rigs on site, with an eighth rig slated to join the fleet shortly. This drilling capacity will be invaluable to Midas’ aggressive extensional and regional targeting across a robust prospect pipeline through the end of the final quarter.
