Muchea crash: Man transferred to Royal Perth Hospital after Wheatbelt light plane crash sparks major response

At least one man is being transported to hospital after a light plane carrying two men crashed around 50km north of Perth, sparking a major response from emergency services.

The incident occurred at around 10.20 on Saturday morning, when a single-engine light aircraft crashed near a private airfield.

The crash happened off Brand Highway near Nolan Road, just north of the town of Muchea, around 50km north of Perth.

Two men, one in his 60s and another in his 30s, were on board the plane when the incident occurred.

One of the men is being transported to Royal Perth Hospital, where it is understood he is not in a life-threatening condition.

The status of the other man is not yet known.

The aeroplane sustained major damage in the crash, with the incident sparking a large response from emergency services.

Aside from police, DFES sent 12 vehicles and the rescue helicopter to the scene and remained on site for more than an hour before departing just after 11.45.

Five crews from St John also attended the scene.

Police inquiries into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
