The Bledisloe Cup dream is over. Again.
Will Jordan scored a late try.
While the Wallabies were in the fight at half-time (17-14), the All Blacks have run away with it in the second half to win 50-19.
The turning point occurred early in the second half when the Wallabies blew a golden chance to take a lead, as the visitors were pinged at the maul when five metres out from the All Blacks’ line. It was a technical penalty, but the correct one. From then, it was one-way traffic as the All Blacks scored another five tries.
Full-time: New Zealand 50, Australia 19
The Wallabies have one back.
They’ve scored through Josh Nasser, via the rolling maul.
New Zealand 43, Australia 19 – 77th minute
They’re over again. This time it’s the captain Codie Taylor.
Relentless pressure from the All Blacks. Sustained pressure and the All Blacks’ muscle is showing. The bench was always the fear for the Wallabies – and it’s showing.
New Zealand 31, Australia 14 – 55th minute
The All Blacks are over. It’s halfback Cam Roigard.
After Ryan Lonergan denied the All Blacks a try by intercepting and going into touch, the home side score seconds later. After the maul, the halfback pounced and gets under Allan Alaalatoa.
New Zealand 24, Australia 14 – 50th minute
Big chance blow for the Wallabies.
Rob Valetini broke free for the Wallabies, before Ben Donaldson forced Beauden Barrett to run the ball into touch five metres out from his line.
But the Wallabies give away a penalty at the rolling maul, with the visitors pinged for being offside. Technical penalty but the correct one. Huge miss.
Rubbing salt into the wound, the Wallabies give away another penalty quickly. Now, the Wallabies are under the pump.
New Zealand 17, Australia 14 – 45th min
The second half is under way and the Wallabies made a big linebreak off the kick restart.
But after Tom Wright sent Max Jorgensen away down the right-hand touchline, the Wallabies are pinged for being offside. It was Fraser McReight who was pinged for being in front. Shame.
New Zealand 17, Australia 14 – 42
The skipper is over. Harry Wilson has crossed for the Wallabies.
The No.8 dived under the sticks after playmaker Ben Donaldson sliced through.
Massive strike.
New Zealand 17, Australia 14 – 37th min
The Wallabies are in the fight. That’s the good news. Down 17-14 at half-time, that’s nothing.
But the Wallabies need to shore up their defensive line. The All Blacks have made five line breaks to two. That said, both playmakers – McKenzie (NZ) and Donaldson (AUS) – have made line breaks.
The Wallabies are causing the All Blacks’ lineout some issues, having stolen two throws. Jeremy Williams having a strong outing for the Wallabies. Fraser McReight is doing his best to slow down the ruck speed. Suaalii has been ever-present.
The big concern is the bench. The Wallabies are lacking experience – tight-head prop Massimo De Lutiis, lock Lachie Shaw and playmaker Declan Meredith are international rookies.
The Wallabies are staying in the fight, though. This Wallabies side has character. We’ve seen that over the past couple of years.
That’s half-time.
Huge strike from skipper Harry Wilson. Usually, it’s the All Blacks who score in the five minutes either side of half-time in Bledisloe Tests. Not tonight. Wilson dived under the sticks after Ben Donaldson sliced through. It was a big play from a playmaker still trying to prove his worth.
New Zealand 17, Australia 14 HT
Damian McKenzie extends the All Blacks’ lead, after Codie Taylor – captaining his nation for the second time – elected to point to the posts to apply some scoreboard pressure. It came after a few missed chances over the past 10 minutes.
New Zealand 17, Australia 7 – 33rd minute
