The futures of seven players hang in the balance at the start of the AFL trade period deadline day.

Jack Viney, Trent Rivers, Nick Murray, Keidean Coleman, Luke Pedlar, Josh Goater and Will McLachlan are the want-aways without a home.

The majority of the big names – such as Nick Blakey, Zach Merrett, Ben King and Zak Butters – have been confirmed, but jostling for other deals remains.

Viney and Rivers are looking to reinvent their careers at West Coast and Murray is sought after by North Melbourne.

Pedlar wants to join Showdown rival Port Adelaide and Josh Goater wants to be a Hawk.

Brisbane is as busy as the Eagles and Melbourne, searching for the right price from the Bombers and Demons for Coleman and McLachlan respectively.

Richmond’s Jayden Short was on the list of players who could change allegiances but his potential move to Collingwood fell through.

“We have made the call,” Short’s manager Anthony McConville told CODE Sports.

“We knew what Richmond wanted and what Collingwood was prepared to give up and there was too big of a divide. So we came to the realisation that having explored the situation that it won’t work for either club.”

Geelong has not arrived at Marvel Stadium for the final day of the trade period but it could be a surprise mover.

Premiership pair Sam De Koning and Gryan Miers haven’t requested a trade but have repeatedly been repeatedly mentioned in discussions.

Miers completed a medical at West Coast prior to travelling overseas.

Richmond and Port Adelaide have already agreed to a pick swap.

The Tigers have exchanged their first, second and fourth round pick next year and pick 22 this year for the Power’s pick five.

Richmond now holds two picks inside the first five selections of this year’s draft but has helped Port Adelaide obtain three first-round picks next year.
