Racing Victoria has issued a veterinary statement following the tragic falls in the Caulfield Cup today, which resulted in the death of Ohope Wins. Half Yours, the 2025 winner, avoided serious injury after also falling during the race.

RV said Ohope Wins, a mare, was attended to immediately but couldn’t be saved and the on-course veterinarian euthanised her.

Half Yours regained his feet and was undergoing a thorough veterinary examination.

RV offered its condolences to the connections of Ohope Wins and said stewards would conduct an inquiry into the incident. The incident would also be reviewed by RV veterinary services as is standard practice.

Melham wanted to ride Blind Raise in the Cox Plate next week and will miss the following Saturday.

UPDATED: Mare Ohope Wins has been euthanised after a tragic fall in the Caulfield Cup.

Racing Victoria vets released a statement saying the Chris Waller-trained mare was put down on the track after being brought down on the track by last year’s winner, Half Yours.

Vets said Half Yours regained his feet before being caught on course by a clerk of the course and returned to the mounting yard.

Both jockeys, Mark Zahra (Half Yours) and Jye McNeil (Ohope Wins), were taken to hospital for observation, but escaped serious injury.

Stewards are investigating the cause of the fall.

With all the things going on behind the scenes following falls from Half Yours and Ohope Wins in the Caulfield Cup, race 10 has been delayed.

It was due to start at 5.50pm, but we are waiting for the track to be cleared for it to get under way.

Channel Seven’s coverage has gone to the news but the last race should be available on the various racing channels.

“This will be life-changing for him,” Flaherty told Channel Seven.

Bedggood shed tears of joy after Kingswood won the cup.

There was disbelief among the crowd at Caulfield as two horses fell during the Caulfield Cup.

“They fell,” one punter screamed, as the falls overshadowed the winner, Kingswood.

Still, that didn’t stop people checking their phones for results.
