Flames rose from the street behind them, but a couple seated at a cafe in Paris continued sipping their drinks as though nothing was amiss. The scene, captured near the Arc de Triomphe on October 17, came amid violent protests sweeping across France.
A clip that captured the odd situation showed the man and woman sitting at an outdoor cafe table, enjoying their drinks as flames engulfed objects on the road just metres away.

The couple appeared to carry on with their conversation, with neither making an obvious attempt to leave despite the unrest in the vicinity.
The contrast between the seemingly ordinary cafe outing and the fires burning in the background made for a striking visual. While the street behind them was engulfed in flames, the pair remained seated, creating an unexpected moment of calm amid the disorder.
As per Reuters, the footage was uploaded to the news agency’s servers after a delay. It subsequently drew attention online, with viewers interpreting the couple’s reaction in different ways.

The footage emerged amid demonstrations across France over the rising cost of living, price increases and concerns about the country’s social welfare model.
Saturday’s demonstrations saw some half a million people turn out across France to protest the cost of living, but morphed into some of the worst violence to rock the country in years, with town halls and shops looted and set ablaze. More than 2,500 people were arrested, while almost 1,000 members of the security forces were injured.
