Video footage of a wild car chase from one end of Perth to the other shows a high powered ute flying past traffic, running red lights and the moment the driver was arrested — after his tyre-blown vehicle came to halt and was boxed in by several unmarked police cars.

The Ford XR8 allegedly reached speeds of up to 220kmh between Mandurah and Yanchep on Tuesday night.

The 36-year-old accused driver’s high speed movements were tracked from above by a police aircraft as it travelled north along the Mitchell Freeway.

It is alleged he drove recklessly as far north as Yanchep, drove through red lights and on the wrong side of the road, and overtook traffic using the the emergency lanes.

He was arrested on Wanneroo Road in Neerabup after the ute was brought to a stop by a tyre deflation device.

WA Police say their officers stopped pursuing the ute on the road when it became too dangerous.

But they were there in force when the wheels literally fell off the escape effort, with seven unmarked and a trio of marked police cars surrounding the car as a man stepped out of the driver’s seat and surrendered.

The man, from Greenfields, has been charged with reckless driving, reckless driving to escape police pursuit, no authority to drive, failing to comply with a direction to stop (circumstances of aggravation), and failing to obey an officer’s order.

Police also allege he was responsible for a string of burglaries this year across Halls Head, Coodanup, Dawesville and Rossmoyne, further charging him over the theft of more than $70,000 in cash, jewellery and gold.

He was due to face Perth Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
