Hyderabad: The Maoist movement in India, especially in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, has significantly weakened, Telangana State Security Advisor B. Shivadhar Reddy said on Wednesday, October 28.
Speaking at the launch of India’s Maoists: Glimpses into Red Insurgency, authored by Dr PV Ramana, Reddy said the book offered multiple perspectives on Maoism at a time when coverage of the movement tended to present only one side of the story.
According to Telangana Today, Ramana said he had travelled to several Maoist-affected regions across the country for his research, where he found that every individual and family he met had a story to tell. The book explores various aspects of the movement, including its organisational structure, finances and women cadres.
Ramana also expressed concern over the ambiguity on the stockpiles of weapons with the Maoists in several states.
Former Andhra Pradesh DGP Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao said the police in undivided Andhra Pradesh had begun the fight against Maoism, which had now reached a decisive stage through the efforts of the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana police forces.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar was among the senior police officers present at the event.
