Luke Jackson is hard not to recognise.
The Fremantle superstar stands at 199cm, has a waving mullet and normally a massive grin on his face — albeit with two fake front top teeth.
Yet the man affectionately known as “Dogga” also has another strong feature to his look and that is the many tattoos that scatter across his body, particularly his arms.
The biggest of the lot is on his left leg, from just above his foot to slightly below his knee which is a strong bit of artwork dominated by two features — a ferocious-looking tiger and an angel.
And then of course, there is the Melbourne premiership tattoo Jackson got alongside several of his Demons teammates, including captain Max Gawn when they won the flag at Optus Stadium in 2021.
But it is what is called the “patchwork sleeves” across both of his arms which give Jackson a different look to most.
They appear to be a random collection of tattoos with no significant correlation to the last.
On the inside of his right arm, Jackson has a man who appears to be dancing and smoking a cigarette, a tattoo of Saturn, which symbolises discipline, personal growth, maturity, and the passage of time.
There is the head of a Lion — more African felines — a tree of life and a glass of wine being sloshed around.
The other side features a pair of small birds — not to dissimilar to that of Brisbane star Lachie Neale, who has them on his left arm —, an astronaut, a teddy bear and the eight phases of the moon, meaning he is maybe a fan of astrology.
There is an angel wing continuing his theme of liking the spiritual entities, and then the character “Grogu” from the Star Wars TV Series ‘The Mandalorian’, indicating he could be a fan of the George Lucas-created fantasy world.
Jackson’s left arm is just as eclectic. On the inside of it, he has a crescent moon — more astrology — the hands of God and Adam from Michelangelo’s famous painting ‘The Creation of Adam’ — more religious context — and a sword just above the wrist.
On the outside, there is a skeleton doing a kick-flip on a skateboard, which we admit we’re not entirely sure what it would mean but it looks cool.
There is also the famous cartoon character Popeye, which was well before Jackson’s time as a child but still could be part of his upbringing.
As well as a a small smiley face — we said he was a happy guy — a lightning bolt, a crown and just above his elbow is two sets of roman numerals which from photographs are too hard to discern what they mean.
And should the Dockers beat Brisbane in tomorrow’s grand final, Jackson is likely to add another tattoo to his collection.
