West Coast have secured rising star Lauren Wakfer on a new deal following a breakout year in the forward line.

The 22-year-old was initally brought to the Eagles as a ruck and became a mainstay for the team, playing every possible game since making her debut in round one of the 2023 season.

However, she found new heights last year, being moved to a more forward dominant role, where she kicked 8.6 across the season to help the Eagles to a maiden finals appearance and be rewarded with a four-year extension.

“I’m keen to sign on because I can feel a really strong build toward success as a team, and I’m excited to play a role in that,” Wakfer said.

“I’ve built such strong connections with the girls and staff in this program, and I’m proud to be part of it for years to come.

“I can’t wait to see how far we can go in the future, and I’m excited to stick around for that.”

Her aerial work has been a key strength behind her push into the forward line while she has still maintained the ability to impact out of the middle when required, recording a career high in hit out wins and to advantage last season.

Eagles AFLW recruiting manager Jordan Loxley said Wakfer has made significant strides in recent seasons, reflected in her elevation into the leadership group.

“Lauren is an ultra-competitive player who has a unique ability to impact both in the air and at ground level,” Loxley said.

“We’ve also seen huge growth in her leadership, which has been recognised through her inclusion in our leadership group.

“Lauren is an important part of our football club, both on and off the field, and we’re very pleased to secure her for the long term.”
