A man allegedly threw his 11-month-old daughter into the Yamuna river from a bridge in Agra, prompting authorities to launch a search-and-rescue operation.
The incident took place on Friday, August 14. The man, identified as Rinku, was later taken into custody by the police. According to officials, he attempted to throw his wife into the river as well.
The woman was, however, rescued by passersby after she raised an alarm. Her husband was overpowered by them and thrashed at the scene.

A video of the physical assault has also surfaced on social media. Prima facie, the entire incident appears to have stemmed from a domestic dispute.
Rinku was arguing with his wife when he tried to throw her down the bridge, the police said. He had reportedly reached the scene with his wife and daughter on his motorcycle.
“With the assistance of divers, a search-and-rescue operation is being conducted in the Yamuna to locate the child,” the police said in a statement. They added that further legal proceedings are underway.
