Apple could be preparing to launch a new Mac mini in the coming days, giving its compact desktop a major refresh nearly two years after the current model arrived. People familiar with Apple’s plans told Bloomberg that the company is readying a new Mac mini and could unveil it before its expected September iPhone event. Apple has reportedly tested versions of the computer with both M5 and M6 processors, although it is not yet clear which chip will power the model that reaches the market.

The timing of the launch is particularly interesting because the current Mac mini has seen strong demand, partly due to growing interest in running artificial intelligence applications locally. However, Apple has also faced supply problems, with shortages of memory chips making it difficult to keep the desktop consistently available.
Some customers have reportedly faced long waits for the current Mac mini, with deliveries taking weeks or even months. Apple CEO Tim Cook had previously indicated that resolving the supply problem would take time. So far, Apple has not confirmed the reported launch plans. So, users are advised to take the details with a pinch of salt.
The new Mac mini would arrive as Apple prepares a busy second half of 2026. The company is expected to announce its next major iPhone event soon, where it could introduce the iPhone 18 Pro lineup and its first foldable iPhone. New Apple Watch models and AirPods are also expected around the same period.
Apple is also working on an updated entry-level AirPods model, reportedly called AirPods 5. The earbuds would follow the previous generation launched in 2024, while AirPods with built-in cameras are not expected until next year.
More Macs and new devices are coming
The Mac mini is only one part of Apple’s larger product pipeline. The company is reportedly preparing a new iPad mini with an OLED display, which could arrive by the end of October. Other upcoming Macs include a refreshed iMac and an entry-level MacBook Pro, both expected to use newer M6 chips.
One of Apple’s more significant Mac projects is a redesigned MacBook Pro with a touchscreen. The 14-inch and 16-inch models are expected to feature OLED displays and redesigned bodies, marking a major change for Apple’s laptop lineup.
The Mac mini also has an important role in Apple’s manufacturing plans. The company has said it intends to begin producing the computer in Houston later this year, as part of its broader push to increase manufacturing in the US.
The reported launch could also make the Mac mini one of the final new products introduced under Tim Cook’s leadership. John Ternus is set to take over as Apple CEO on September 1 and will oversee the company’s upcoming product cycle.
For now, the biggest question is which processor Apple chooses for the new Mac mini. If the launch does happen in the coming days, more details should emerge soon.
