A pregnant Aussie mum has opened up about a recent ‘flight from hell’ that left her in tears, revealing she was called a ‘stupid b****’ and repeatedly harassed by a male passenger for travelling with her son.
Matilda Valles was flying to Thailand with her husband and two children when she was accosted by another passenger, recalling the upsetting incident in a video uploaded to Tik Tok earlier this month.
The mother-of-three to be explained how a flight attendant offered her and her son an empty row of seats when boarding ‘to make more space for [her] and the baby’.
Things would quickly take a downwards turn after a male passenger sitting in front of them instantly became visibly annoyed by the seating arrangement.
“As soon as he saw me, he groaned, and I just thought, ‘Oh my god, I’m in for something here — we’re in for it’,” she began.
“Straight away he reclined his seat. He moved his seat back closer to me, and whenever I turn, I can see him, and he’s constantly looking at the corner of his eye.”
The mother explained that her son Albie was not behaving badly, but was just acting as any child would on a plane.
“Albie was not bad on the plane. He didn’t cry, he wasn’t grizzly, he wasn’t upset — he was just being a little child,” she continued.
Ms Valles went on to explain that when her son made any noise, the man would groan, look at her, and shake his head in annoyance.
“Then he turned around and said, ‘Can you please keep your child quiet’”, to which Ms Valles replied: “How do you expect me to do that?”
Doubling down, he said: “You’re the mother — you should know how to control your child.”
Later on in the journey, Albie made another noise, which prompted the angry flyer to loudly state: “I’ve never met a mother that can’t control their own child”.
Ms Valles replied to the upset man, saying, “I’ve never met such a rude man in my entire life.”
According to Ms Valles, the male passenger continued to turn around and stare at her, prompting the mother to ask him to stop which was met with a vicious response.
“He looked me up and down and said, ‘I wouldn’t be looking at you, you stupid b***h,’” she said.
Bursting into tears, Ms Valles was supported by other passengers who agreed the man had been abusive.
The man was even warned by the chief flight attendant not to speak to Ms Valles for the remainder of the journey, stating: “Don’t get on a flight expecting not to have kids on the plane”.
Ms Valles’ recollection of her journey has garnered a huge response online, with horrified users sharing their concerns over the situation.
“It’s people like that who make me terrified to fly. I’m way too emotional to handle that kind of confrontation, especially when parenting is already hard enough as it is,” one person commented.
Another commenter added: “That’s actually very concerning behaviour from him, it’s scary.”
“What an awful man! My worst nightmare on a plane,” a third person wrote.
