Industrialist Harsh Goenka shared a video of a barber cutting a customer’s hair while wearing a futuristic motion-capture suit, raising questions about whether even traditional professions could eventually be affected by AI.
On his official X account, Goenka, Chairman of RPG Enterprises, shared the video showing the barber at work in what appeared to be a regular barbershop.
In the clip, the barber was seen wearing a full motion-capture setup, including head-mounted cameras, a body harness fitted with wires and sensors, and tracking devices around his wrists.

Despite the elaborate equipment, he carried out an otherwise ordinary haircut, handling his tools, applying products and performing different grooming techniques as the system recorded his movements.
The equipment appeared to capture the barber’s precise movements, angles and techniques, potentially creating detailed data that could be used to train AI systems.
Sharing the video, Goenka wrote, “AI training going on in India! Even barber jobs may soon be at risk.”

The post led to a discussion about the implications of using human workers to generate data for AI. One user questioned whether workers involved in such data-collection projects were actually being paid as promised and suggested that some could amount to an information-collection scam.
Another called for a consortium to regulate such practices, arguing that replacing workers through technology could ultimately hurt the very people whose work is being used to train the systems.
Some users remained firmly in favour of human barbers, saying they would still prefer one with shaky hands over a robot that could potentially malfunction after a software update.
