The Beach Boys threw their tour into disarray this week after axing three shows with barely a day’s notice.
The Good Vibrations hitmakers had been due back on the road after a two‑month break, starting with a date at the Big E Arena in West Springfield, Massachusetts, on Thursday (24.09.26), followed by the Univest Performance Center in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, on Friday (25.09.26), and the Alabama Theatre in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on Sunday (27.09.26) – but all three were suddenly wiped from the schedule.
Venues in Pennsylvania and South Carolina blamed “circumstances beyond the control” of organisers, leaving fans scrambling for answers and no explanation from the group’s camp.
With those dates gone, the next show listed is on October 9 at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington, Illinois, before the tour moves on to Cincinnati and Nashville.
The latest cancellations come after the band axed a series of summer shows to give Mike Love the chance to “recharge”.
Mike, 85, is the only original member of the group which tours under the name the Beach Boys.
The tour was to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of 1996 record Pet Sounds. However, they called off almost 30 dates in the US, so Mike could rest.
A message posted on Mike’s Instagram page at the time read: “Playing for you is the highlight of our summer every year – especially as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States while saluting the 60th Anniversary of Pet Sounds.
“We’ve been having a blast out there, and to keep the good vibrations going strong, we’ll be taking a short break to recharge before getting back on the road in September.
“All tickets for postponed performances (July 23 through September 3) will be honored following our return in late September. Please contact your local box office for additional information and questions.
“Thanks for your love – we can’t wait to see you back out there for a September to Remember … We look forward to continuing our Endless Summer with you.”
The cancelled shows included US dates in New York, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Tennessee and Wisconsin among others as well as several shows in Canada.
Bruce Johnston was previously part of the Beach Boys line-up until he retired from live performances earlier this year to focus on studio work. He returned to the line-up briefly for the band’s three-night run at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles in July.
Brian previously said: “I am excited to join the Beach Boys for performances on special occasions and will see everyone at the Hollywood Bowl as we celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday.
“This isn’t goodbye, it’s see you soon. I am forever grateful to be a part of the Beach Boys musical legacy.”
Former member Al Jardine is also still touring with his group Al Jardine and the Pet Sounds Band.
