Beau Lamarre-Condon allegedly asked a friend if she could get him a silencer for a gun so he could “scare someone” before he allegedly murdered a Sydney couple, a jury has been told.

The former police officer allegedly fatally shot Jesse Baird, whom he briefly dated, and Mr Baird’s new boyfriend Luke Davies on February 19, 2024.

Mr Lamarre-Condon, 31, has pleaded not guilty and is arguing self-defence before a jury trial in the NSW Supreme Court.

His friend, known for legal reasons by the pseudonym Elizabeth Kennedy, sparked a major search for the couple’s bodies after she told police she had driven to a farm – where Mr Lamarre-Condon allegedly tried to sink the bodies – with him in February 2024.

Ms Kennedy told the jury the former officer asked her for a gun silencer before the couple’s deaths so he could “scare someone”.

“I asked him what it was for … (I asked), ‘Don’t you have a gun, why would you need a silencer?’ and he was just like ‘Oh it’s just to scare someone’,” Ms Kennedy said.

Days after he is accused of killing Mr Baird and Mr Davies, the former officer picked up Ms Kennedy in a van and took her for a long drive.

Ms Kennedy told the jury the van was “freezing” as the air conditioner was on and the windows were both open, and recalled the vehicle having a faint “lemon” smell like Ajax.

She could see a blue tarp in the back of the van, with Mr Lamarre-Condon allegedly telling her he was moving furniture and changing the subject when she asked how much longer the drive was going to be.

The jury was earlier told the woman approached police two days after the drive and told authorities Mr Lamarre-Condon had left her at the gate to Cella Farm in Bungonia in the NSW Southern Tablelands.

It is alleged he stuffed the couple’s bodies in surfboard bags, wrapped them in tarp, and then tried to sink them in a dam at the farm.

When this failed, he is accused of later dumping them outside a nearby Greek monastery.

Ms Kennedy’s evidence will continue on Wednesday.

The jury has been told she made a statement to police under the promise that what she disclosed would not be used against her in any criminal proceedings, and she has not been charged with any wrongdoing.
