Bengaluru Police have arrested three men from Assam in connection with an explosion at an under-construction building on Jermaiah Road on October 20. The blast, caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) allegedly concealed inside a torch battery, injured two workers from Assam.

According to police, the prime accused allegedly plotted to murder his cousin over a land dispute, financial issues and a disagreement related to the cancellation of his sister’s marriage. He allegedly assembled the IED using materials purchased locally, concealed it inside a parcel and left it at a petty shop, intending for his cousin to collect it.

However, the device exploded when a co-worker, identified as Allauddin, opened the parcel on the fifth floor of the under-construction building. Two workers sustained injuries and were admitted to a hospital for treatment.

Police identified the accused as Bhurhan Ahmad Burbhuiyya, 20, who works in welding and electrical jobs in Maski, Raichur district, and Sajidull Lashkar, 22, who works in the kitchen of a Bytwo Coffee outlet in Malleswaram, Bengaluru. Both are natives of Dinanathpur village in Assam’s Hailakandi district.

According to the police, Bhurhan allegedly assembled and planted the IED and insisted that Allauddin open the parcel. Sajidull, described as Bhurhan’s childhood friend, allegedly assisted in executing the blast and provided shelter to him. Police have described him as a conspirator and harbourer.

The third accused was apprehended in Maski in Raichur district, while two were arrested in Bengaluru. Police said all three accused were childhood friends who allegedly conspired to carry out the crime and exchanged information through a WhatsApp group. The injured worker also reportedly hails from Dinanathpur village.

As part of the investigation, police examined more than 1,500 CCTV cameras and questioned over 100 people. Ten special teams worked for 72 hours to identify and apprehend the accused.

Police said interrogation of the three accused is continuing and further investigation is underway.
